The founder of My Reno Man, Des Maynard, discovered his passion for building while working side by side with his father at the family cottage. Much to his father’s chagrin that passion soon became a challenge, as Des slowly turned his father’s tools into communal property, and then claimed them as his own. Renovating his personal home over the years became Des’ pet project, which gave him the “hands on” experience he needed in a wide variety of trades. Still an “amateur”, Des took on leadership roles with a series of charity building projects, with drastically increased the breadth and scope of his experience.
Back in 2010, while devoting yet another weekend in the service of friends in need, someone suggested that his work was so good that he should be charging for his services. The concept of My Reno Man was born. Des jokes that he only works for friends, and that remains as true today as it was then. Old friends still call when projects beckon, and new clients become friends.
